Acoustic Guitar Information

This type of guitar is also known as a western guitar.
It has six steel strings and produces a full, smooth,
warm and quite metallic sound.

This is the type guitar used in most popular music.

This guitar is a little bit more difficult to play compared
to an electric because the strings are further from the
fretboard (fingerboard).

Most acoustic guitars have a pickguard to protect the
top from "plectrum scratches".

Among acoustic guitars there are a lot of differences in
the materials wich are used to make an instrument.
Some types of wood are better than others and some
guitars have a solid top and some have a laminated top.

According to a lot of people (incl. music instructors)
a good instrument needs a solid top,
this is more expensive though.

Basicly there are different maintypes of acoustic guitars:

- Beginner's guitars
- 'Better' guitars for intermediate players
- High-end guitars

Your choice depends on your personal preferences.
Try every type so you know which one is best for you.

There are also electric acoustic guitars available which are acoustic guitars with the possibility of amplification.

Some good brands for acoustic guitars are: Gibson, Martin, Ibanez & Yamaha.

The acoustic guitar is an excellent choice if you are focusing on popular music
(like pop & western).
