Semi-Acoustic Guitar Information

A hollow-body electric or semi-acoustic guitar is a type of electric guitar with both electric pickups and a sound box, so it combines the properties of an electric and an acoustic guitar (this is not the same as an electric acoustic guitar, which is an acoustic guitar which has the possibility of amplification).

This instrument is designed to be used with an amplifier primarily and the sound box is used to
produce a richer and fuller amplified tone not obtainable with a solid body instrument.

You can also play this guitar unplugged but it cannot produce as much volume as an acoustic.

There are portable (effect)devices available for your electric guitar so you can take it with you
with your earphones without needing an amplifier (like the Line 6 Pocket Pod).
With this same device it's possible to use a lot of effects with a basic amplifier.

Hollow body electric guitars are generally lighter than solid body guitars, however, they might face problems in high-gain amplification, as the sound chambers also induce feedback.

Some great brands for semi-acoustic guitars are: Gretsch, Gibson and Ibanez.

Especially when you like to play Blues and Jazz, this is the right guitar for you!

hollow body guitar which is shown on the picture).
